Debbie Crawford Vice President, Acquirer Management at Mastercard

Debbie has been working in payments for over 30 years and has undertaken many roles across the industry with a focus on Acquiring and Acceptance. She is currently Vice President at Mastercard with responsibility for Acquirer Management in Europe. Working closely with some the region’s largest Pan European Acquirers, Debbie seeks to promote the value of acceptance in the payments ecosystem and continues to champion the needs of the acquirer.

Debbie started her career in acquiring at HSBC Merchant Services (previously Midland Merchant Services) progressing from field sales to Senior Corporate Account Manager. As Senior Corporate Account Manager she was responsible for managing relationships with some of the country’s biggest merchants, successfully negotiating deals with many High Street names. From there she “flipped” sides and joined Tesco Stores, where she was responsible for managing all payments for UK Stores. During her time there she was a key player in the introduction of chip and PIN to the checkouts and was part of the team that worked on the successful Tesco Direct launch. She was also a member of the PCI Security Standards Council Advisory Board representing the view of European Merchants during it’s early formative years. Debbie was then hired by Visa Europe to be part of a new team tasked with developing Acquirer and Merchant Value Propositions. In the run up to the London 2012 Olympics, Debbie led the first Olympic merchant and acquirer campaign, taking the games to over 250k merchants.

Whether at home or work, Debbie is passionate about making a positive difference in the world. She is a serial volunteer with Girl Guiding, providing opportunities for young girls to help them develop new skills, grow in confidence and find their voice on issues that matter to them. She is currently working towards her Narrowboating qualification so she can take Guide groups away on trips offering new experiences, time to be independent and promote team building.
